Tannat
A somm friend brought this wine to my attention and I immediately secured a bottle. I loved it, the staff loved it, and we poured it for customers and they loved it. For just over a decade now the Bouza family has been operating this small estate winery located on the outskirts of Montevideo. The Canelones region’s temperate, Atlantic-influenced climate sees four distinct seasons and temperatures rarely exceed 93 degrees. Bouza is receiving worldwide attention for their Tannat from dry farmed family vineyards. The nose is full with aromas of black fruits, mulberries, cassis, and raisins, over an elegant smoky background. On the palate the tannins are velvety (very difficult to achieve with Tannant.) Balanced and long finish. This is a big, voluptuous, wine!
